Jehovah's Witnesses Predicted Armageddon's Start In The 20th Century

Jehovah's Witnesses Predicted Armageddon's Start In The 20th Century? Yea they did.
Again in my nightly research I read an interesting prophesy in an old Watchtower book my dad had way back in 1971. The title of the book is "The Nations Shall Know That I Am Jehovah. How?"
It states plain as day on page 216 paragraph 9 that:"Shortly, within our twentieth century, the "battle in the day of Jehovah" will begin against the modern antitype of Jerusalem, Christendom."

I double checked and I was right, this book is conveniently excluded from the WT CD-ROM, so what I did was scan the page and put it online to share it with the world.

I think this is significant because the WT always says that they never pointed to 1975 as the year the end would come. This indicates that in 1971 they were looking into the short future for the end to come. To be sure they covered their ass, they said in the 20th century. No wonder they left this book off the CD ROM!

What do you think of this discovery I have made about another false prophecy made by the Visible Organization of God?

JEHOVAH’S “SWORD” AGAINST “ALL THOSE OF FLESH”

9 Shortly, within our twentieth century, the “battle in the day of Jehovah” will begin against the modern antitype of Jerusalem, Christendom. The ancient “soil of Israel” pictures the realm in which Christendom has operated. It pictures the standing and relationship that Christendom has claimed to occupy with God by means of his “new covenant” of which Jesus Christ is the mediator. Now is no time for anyone in Christendom to rely on any righteousness on the basis of his own merits and to boast of his own self-righteousness. Jehovah’s “sword” of warfare will cut off from this position that Christendom’s clergy claim for her all religionists who depend upon her having an acceptable standing with God.

I was told when I became a witness in 1980 that JW's never predicted the end in 1975.

Well, I've discovered (through the help of the Internet and blogs/sites like this) that that wasn't true.

I feel dubed...

==================================

Hehe - jaydubed more like. Most Witnesses today believe the Watchtower Society's line that those who predicted 1975 were some group of rogue JWs who 'went ahead' of the things written.

In its issue of July 15, 1976, The Watchtower, commenting on the inadvisability of setting our sights on a certain date, stated: “If anyone has been disappointed through not following this line of thought, he should now concentrate on adjusting his viewpoint, seeing that it was not the word of God that failed or deceived him and brought disappointment, but that his own understanding was based on wrong premises.” In saying “anyone,” The Watchtower included all disappointed ones of Jehovah’s Witnesses, hence including persons having to do with the publication of the information that contributed to the buildup of hopes centered on that date.

That's right... The Watchtower Society wasn't wrong for predicting the date of 1975 as the year Armageddon would happen... it was the rank-and-file JWs whose "own understanding was based on wrong premises." As if those 'wrong premises' weren't hand feed to those disappointed JWs! Talk about insult to injury.
